What is Option Chain?

An option chain is a table of all the call (CE) and put (PE) options available for an underlying such as NIFTY or a stock, arranged by strike price for one expiry, showing each option's price, open interest, OI change, volume and implied volatility.

How to read an option chain

Calls are on one side and puts on the other, with strike prices down the middle. Strikes below the spot price are in the money for calls and out of the money for puts; strikes above are the reverse.

Traders look for the strikes with the highest open interest and OI change to judge support and resistance, use PCR for overall sentiment, and compare IV across strikes.

Expiries in India

On NSE, NIFTY has weekly and monthly expiries, while BANKNIFTY, FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY and stock options have monthly expiries. SENSEX options on BSE have weekly expiries.

The AOC option chain

AOC shows the live option chain with max and second-max highlights, strike-wise PCR, time value, reversal levels, a spot price bar coloured by PCR, a Greeks table and a split-view chart with support and resistance lines.
